Local roots, global connections: Pioneering investment in silo infrastructure

Silos are an essential part of operations at Crespel & Deiters, as they safely store and dispatch our functional ingredients. That’s why we’re constructing a state-of-the-art building that will expand our handling and storage capacity, and thus help optimise the value chain. This project marks yet another milestone in the growth of our main site in Ibbenbüren, Germany.

Biggest ever investment in infrastructure

Following the demolition of four smaller silos to make way for the new one, construction of the €18.5 million project began in February, making it the company’s biggest ever single investment. Slipform construction was used in the initial phase, allowing production at the site to continue smoothly. This method involves continuous concreting, with the formwork moving upwards as the building rises. As a result, the silo building grew at about 15 centimetres per hour, reaching its full height of 49 metres in just under two weeks. Next steps include the installation of 18 silo cells and equipping them with the necessary technology. The building is scheduled to be operational in early 2026.

Local partnerships

Crespel & Deiters is supporting the local economy by working with regional partners to deliver the project. Steffen von Glahn, COO of the Crespel & Deiters Group, explains: “Our investment in the site’s infrastructure is not only an economic decision, but also an expression of our commitment to the region. With our silo project, the Crespel & Deiters Group is deepening its regional roots and strengthening Ibbenbüren’s position as an expert in wheat-based raw materials in the global market.”
